Foreign direct investments in Romania hike 2% in the first nine months of 2007

FDI reached 5 billion euros, covering 42.5 percent of the country's current account deficit. FDI totalized 4.9 billion euros in the first nine months of 2006 yet they covered 72.5 percent of the current account deficit at that moment.

The coverage rate of the current account deficit through FDI increased slightly in September to 42.5 percent from 40 percent in the first eight months. FDI exceeded 4 billion euros in the first eight months of 2007.

The current account deficit widened 76.5 percent in the first nine months of the year from the same period last year, reaching 11.8 billion euros.
