Before being appointed executive president, Bruynseels will become member of the board on May 1. From this position he will tightly collaborate with the current interim executive president, Manfred Wimmer to make possible a good transfer of attributions.
Bruynseels took up his banking career in London and worked at Barclays for 27 years. Bruynseels said he was impressed with people he met at Erste Bank and BCR as well as with the lender's excellent status on the market.
During 1997 and 1999 Bruynseels served as financial manager for Barclays' businesses in Africa, the Caribbean, Middle East and Latin America. His last title with Barclays was senior executive manager of the retail and corporate banking global divisions on emergent markets.
Wimmer will return to Erste Bank's headquarters in the second half of the year to take over an executive position within the Austrian group.
Bruynseels takes over BCR at a time when the top lender is completing its restructuring program. President of Erste Bank and member of BCR's surveillance council, Andreas Treichl set target to catch up with the main competitor, BRD-groupe Societe Generale which last year outpaced BCR in terms of profit and network expansion despite its smaller assets.
