GE targets acquisitions in the region
He declined to provide further details on possible acquisitions or partnership, as these are currently being evaluated.

Romania has high potential for General Electric, especially “regarding infrastructure modernization and development plans, and here I am talking about equipment for the energy, natural gas, air and railroad transportation sectors, and medical equipment,” Colteanu added.

GE’s long-term regional goal is to strengthen its position as top supplier and employer. In Romania, the company has more than 1,200 employees.
Speaking of the international crisis impact on GE’s business, Colteanu said that projects will not be impacted in the short-run, but there will certainly be a medium-term impact, mainly on projects carried out by independent developers, who will have financing difficulties in the coming ten months.

According to Colteanu, Southeastern Europe is likely to be less affected, as there are many active investors who have their own financing sources. Furthermore, the crisis will not have a significant impact on Romania’s financial sector, which is “still strong.”

However, the recession in the international economic sector, especially in the European Union single market, could have an indirect impact on Romania, so the watchword should be “caution,” Colteanu said.
