Gemisa shareholders to launch new fund

The shareholders of the Gemisa Investments fund will launch a new risk capital fund this September, with a financing capacity of some €100 million, according to Gemisa’s CEO, Dragos Rosca.

The fund will handle major projects, worth some €5 million, Rosca added. It will focus on acquisitions in industry, construction and telecommunications, but will not target a specific sector, the Gemisa official said.

“What counts is the company; one does not have to target a specific sector, because if one focuses on a sector one generally overpays,” according to Rosca. He told Business Standard that businesses which have at least an annual 25 percent increase are interesting for the new fund. “A business increasing by 10-15 percent a year is not attractive to me,” added Gemisa’s CEO. The name of the future investment fund is yet to be chosen, Rosca said. He explained that the Gemisa name was also selected just one week before the fund’s official opening.

A new Diagnosis clinic is to be opened this summer near Gara de Nord train station, and other new clinics will be established in central and northern Bucharest as of next year, according to Cristina Manea, Diagnosis President, and owner of 20 percent of the medical center’s share capital.

Gemisa Investments is based in Cyprus. Its shareholders are three international investment funds, which forecast €24 million in net sales in 2007, almost double the sales posted in 2006 of €14.1 million.

Acquisition
Gemisa Investments, established in 2006, announced on Tuesday that it is acquiring 45 percent of Diagnosis Medical Center for €1.5 million. This is the 14th company in the fund’s portfolio. Gemisa has indicated it will make investments worth €5 million in Diagnosis Medical Center in the next three years, and plans to develop a nationwide Diagnosis center network.
