The yields of optional pension funds (Pillar III) are indirectly affected by the subprime crisis on capital markets. As such, the need for a long-term administrative and placement plan, rather than short-term speculative behavior, becomes evident, according to the General Manager of ING Asigurari de Viata, Bram Boon. In fact, such a crisis also presents opportunities for the acquisition of instruments at prices closer to their basic value, or even lower, added Boon. ING Asigurari de Viata administers two optional pension funds, ING Clasic and ING Optim, while ING Fond de Pensii claims over 32 percent of the private mandatory pension fund (Pillar II).
