“We are facing a month of hard work, with government representatives,” said the President of the National Union Block (BNS), Dumitru Costin. He added that they want to provide a road map with priorities for the labor and social security systems, on the one hand, and determine if solutions can be found to maintain the public pension system in the coming 15-20 years. The analysis is to be made public next month, in a similar meeting, also mediated by the President.
Although unions say they struck a deal with the government following yesterday's meeting, Economy and Finance Minister Varujan Vosganian said the meeting was pointless, as both state and social security budgets were approved and include trade union demands. The minister added that changes in the budget legislation were not mentioned during the meeting.
Prior to the meeting, trade union representatives mentioned that further stipulations could be introduced in the budget legislation, through an emergency government ordinance.
