Government increased minimum wage by €11

The government approved an increase in minimum salaries to RON 540 (€150) from the current RON 500 (€139), as of October 1.

The decision, made during yesterday’s government session, follows an agreement closed in July with trade and employers unions, according to the government spokeswoman, Camelia Spataru.

The minimum salary is to further increase as of January 1, 2009, to RON 600 (€167). The agreement between government and trade unions says the minimum wage must increase by RON 100 (€28) each year. Thus, in 2014, the final year included in the agreement, minimum salaries are to reach RON 1,325 (€368), or 50 percent of the average salary per economy.
