Another international producer, Sanofi Aventis, ranks fourth, with a mere 0.2 percent share below the top three companies, of 6.7 percent. Market share was calculated for the past 12 months.
In the second quarter of 2008, GSK sales, worth RON 118 million (€33.9 million), were exceeded by those of Hoffmann la Roche (€37.7 million), Sanofi Aventis (€36 million), and Novartis (€35.9 million), the report writes.
“Roche’s growth was registered on the cancer product segment,” according to Roche Romania’s General Manager, Dan Zamonea, for Business Standard.
Meanwhile, the Romanian pharmaceutical market has registered 8.4 percent growth in the past 12 months (June 2007-June 2008). In the first quarter, the increase amounted to only 6.1 percent, below market player expectations. The engine of growth was prescription drugs, with sales 16.3 percent higher. The Sales of over-the-counter drugs rose 8.1 percent.
