Half of Romanian employees are considering changing their current place of employment – 35 percent frequently consider leaving the company they are work for, 10 percent are already planning to leave their employment with a company in Romania, and 6 percent are ready to move abroad professionally. “This is the lowest degree of loyalty towards employers of all countries where we have conducted this study. Reasons given include discontent related to salaries, lack of training, low jobless rate, lack of appreciation by the employer, and workplace atmosphere,” said Jean Baptiste Aloy, analyst at Ipsos Research. The study used an online questionnaire filled out by 1,481 employees, working in different sectors, but excluding artisans, agricultural and trade employees, and freelancers. Besides Romania, the analysis targeted Belgium, the Czech Republic, France, Italy, Spain, Slovakia and Turkey.
Adrian Stanciu, Senior Partner of Ascendis, a human resource consultancy company, is wondering whether people are constantly exploiting existing offers on the labor market. “Many employees want to change their workplace, although this is not directly influenced by opportunities available at the time on the market,” he added.
On the other hand, Mihaela Perianu, General Manager of the recruiting company AIMS Human Capital,
believes that the percentage published by Ipsos is unrealistic. “A more accurate percentage seems to be 30-35 percent. If one in two Romanians wants to change their place of employment, this would mean we are an unhappy nation,” she added. According to the two consultants mentioned above, the subject depends on the dynamics of the economy from region to region. “In Banat, for example, people are much more loyal, and are not fond of change,” Mihaela Perianu explains.
Still, Romanian employees have scored highest in terms of professional life quality. Ipsos considers that this is due to Romanians’ having low expectations of their employers and to improvements registered on the labor market in the past few years. Almost every other employee is part of the category of motivated
employee, 49 percent, and is deeply involved in various activities at his place of work.
