Within IT companies, the departments at risk are marketing, PR, financial-accounting, and human resources, as companies either cut budgets or outsource those segments.
On the other hand, fewer external projects could be compensated by opportunities generated by companies abroad, which are also subject to cost-cutting and are outsourcing some services to cheaper markets, such as Romania, according to the General Manager of outsourcing services supplier ITC Networks, Doru Mardare.
Major global players in the industry have announced layoffs due to the financial crisis. So far, however, representatives of local subsidiaries said no such measures are being taken in Romania. “To date, we are not reducing personnel, although as things are going, we do not know what will happen. One quarter’s worth of decline can be supported, but if the situation lasts up to a year, expenditure cutting will be necessary,” said the Manager of HP Romania’s Imaging&Printing Group, Irinel Ilie.
