HeidelbergCement entered in Romania in 1998 through the acquisition of cement factory Moldocim Bicaz. It later purchased two more production units. The three factories merged in 2004 under the name of Carpatcement Holding.
“Romania is an outstandingly important pillar of the HeidelbergCemet group, as one of the most dynamic markets in Europe. This is due to a strong economic growth, with impact on cement consumption, as a result of investments in infrastructure and constructions,” the CEO of HeidelbergCement Central Europe&Central Asia, Andreas Kern.
The company estimates a 4.6 percent increase in business this year, up to €380 million, due to limited production capacity. In the first half of the year, the growth in turnover was 1 percent. Last year, the company’s profit rose 63 percent.
