“Since beer producers are faced with an accelerated increase of variable costs and sharper competition due to a slower market advance, the focus on growth of the value of our company has become more pronounced,” said President and CEO Edwin Botterman.
The Romanian beer market exceeded €1 billion last year. Main companies on the market are multinationals Heineken, Ursus Breweries, InBev and United Romanian Breweries Bereprod. Local producers European Foods, Bermas Suceava, Bere Azuga and Robema Rosiorii de Vede hold important market shares.
Heineken claims a 30 percent market share following its acquisition of Bere Mures. The merger will be final in the first half of 2009. Heineken will invest over €50 million this year to increase production capacities. The company has five beer factories in Romania.
Heineken posted profit worth €44.8 million in 2007 and turnover of €210.1 million.
