“In this target we have considered the market’s instability, the significant increase in raw material internationally, higher prices for fuels, and the fluctuation of the exchange rate,” Stefan Padure, the company’s Vice President, told Business Standard.

“It is very difficult to talk about profit in current conditions, when the cost of financing has surged and raw materials have reached heights which are difficult to accept by clients,” said the company official.

The domestic cold meat market is worth over €700 million, and its main players are Cris-Tim, Aldis Calarasi, Angst, Elit, and Campofrio. Angst posted RON 99.2 mln (some €28 mln) in net sales in this year’s first quarter, 15.5 percent higher year-on-year. Average meat consumption in Romania was 62 kg per capita in 2007, compared to the European Union’s average of 90 kg per capita.
