Holcim Romania: shortage of engineers in the cement industry
The shortage of technical specialists is serious in several areas - civil construction, automatics, mechanics and the chemical industry. “We are especially concerned about the shortage of good and experienced engineers. The investment volume, of tens of millions of euros annually, explains this need,” Holcim Romania’s Human Resources Manager, Daniela Salajan, told Business Standard.

The company plans to employ a further 100 people this year, mostly in the technical sector. Additional staff in other fields, such as financial, sales and marketing, will also be employed, added Daniela Salajan.

The turnover of personnel at Holcim was below 4.5 percent last year. In the past four years, personnel costs rose some 15-25 percent and salary levels are above average in the field. One of the means employed by Holcim to retain personnel is training. This year’s Holcim training budget amounts to €800,000.
