Slatina City Hall officials said that Honsel is preparing the construction site to begin work on the factory. A City Hall representative said that Honsel has not indicated when construction on the factory will begin, so a completion date is likewise unknown. The German company has leased some 20 hectares in Slatina.
In early July, City Hall said that the Honsel factory could supply parts for Ford, Audi and Volkswagen. Forty suppliers recently came to Romania at the invitation of Ford to visit the factory in Craiova. These could invest some €1 billion over the next two years, and create at least 4,000 jobs. A large part of these companies already supply parts for the other seven factories owned by the US car maker.
Honsel is part of Honsel International Technologies group, with over 4,600 employees, and turnover worth over €850 million.
