“HR departments usually play a far more important role in the West than in Central and Eastern Europe, which partially explains the difference in salaries,” said Paul Milata, Kienbaum’s Country Manager for Bulgaria and Romania.
Salaries for the HR manager position vary significantly on the local market, depending on region, company, and the employee’s experience. Thus, the monthly gross salary of a Romanian HR manager ranges between €1,300 and €3,500, according to Kienbaum.
In the United Kingdom, the monthly salary of an HR manager exceeds €15,000, while in Austria and Italy, monthly salaries amount to €10,500 and €9,500, respectively.
“We must compare salaries with the cost of living. Generally, for management positions, salaries of Romanian managers were competitive last year. In terms of purchasing power, they are comparable with those paid abroad, or even more attractive,” said Ruxandra Stoian, Head of the HR Consultancy Department of the PricewaterhouseCoopers Romania advisory company.
HR managers in neighboring countries are paid better than their local counterparts. The average monthly gross salary for an HR manager is €3,700 in Hungary, €4,500 in the Czech Republic, and €5,000 in Poland.
