Hungary pledges to open door to labor market for Romanians in 2008, after one-year restriction
Workers from Romania can currently work in four fields in Hungary which include some 280 specializations.

Romania’s premier saluted the decision noting it is a fair one in line with the freedom of movement, one of the European Union’s principles.

Austria announced on October 29 it will lift interdiction on Romanians on its labor market starting 2008; however, UK imposed another one-year ban under the pressure of the large number of immigrants from countries which joined EU in 2004.

More than 10,000 Romanians left the country in the first three months of the year to find work abroad, according to data provided by the Office for Labor Force Migration; as many as 85 percent went to Germany, where the average salary can reach 1,200 euros a month.

Nevertheless, Romanians’ favorite work destinations are Italy and Spain mostly due to the cultural similarities which make it easier to adapt to the different environment.
