IDC: IT market to rise 11 percent in 2008

“Following 16.7 percent growth in 2007, we expect a slower rhythm in 2008 due to last year’s evolution. These are high figures and it is quite challenging to maintain annual growth rhythms of over 10 percent,” says Calin Mirea, Research Analyst with IDC Romania.

Hardware will remain the most important market component. Notebook sales will be twice as those of monitors. “Fixed and mobile broadband connection usage is spreading fast, and this is a positive influence on the market. More PCs means more internet connections and broadband demand,” said Madalin Lazarescu, Research Manager, IDC Romania.

IT investments will rise by 19.6 percent this year. According to IDC national, international and multinational companies will battle for the largest share in local investments.

The software market will grow by 11 percent in 2008, a similar level as that in 2007. According to IDC, the small and medium-sized enterprise segment has the largest potential in the coming years.
