The Ikea store in Bucharest sold more than 4.6 million products in the first half of the year. The number of clients increased 40 percent in September as prices dropped 12 percent. The 25 million euro investment has not yet been returned, but company representatives estimate to get a return in four years.
Ikea plans to extend its store network in Romania to all cities with more than 300,000 inhabitants. “We are now inaugurating plans for opening a second store of 26,000 square meters,” retail manager Cornel Oprisan said.
Ikea opened its first outlet in Romania in the North Bucharest Baneasa area in March this year. The store has a total surface of 26,000 square meters and 10 percent of its goods are locally-manufactured.
Ikea, which operated nearly 250 stores at the end of last year in 34 countries worldwide, was established in 1943 in Sweden.
