Increasingly fewer cars to be sold in the coming five months

They add that it is possible that the 140,000 used cars sold in the first seven months will be supplemented in the second half of the year with a further 60,000 units. The main problem is a lack of financing, and an increasingly difficult economic climate, according to an explanation yesterday for Business Standard by Miodrag Stanoievici, General Manager of TiriacAutorulate.

A significant drop on this market was noticed in July, when the registration of second-hand cars declined by some 70 percent, compared to the same period in 2008. As of 1 July 2008, a car pollution tax went into effect, which replaced the first registration fee, leading to a rise in used car sales.

New car registrations dropped 57.2 percent in the first seven months compared to the same period last year, to reach 73,266 units, according to data provided by the Motor Vehicle License and Registration Department (DRPCIV), quoted by Mediafax.
