Labor productivity slid by an annual 11.6 percent in January in the processing industry but rose 7.1 percent in the extracting industry. It increased 1.5 times in 2008 in real terms compared to 2002, INS’s President, Vergil Voineanu, said yesterday. In nominal terms, labor productivity, computed as ratio between gross domestic product (GDP) and the employed population, was 3.4 times higher than in 2002.
Analysts on the financial market expect productivity to increase above the growth rate of salaries. The average net salary was RON 1,355 (some €315.5) in January 2009, down nine percent month-on-month.
