Four of these law firms are Romanian - Musat&Asociatii, Nestor Nestor Niculescu Kingston Petersen (NNDKP), Popovici, Nitu&Asociatii, and Tuca Zbarcea&Asociatii, and only one is an international company - Linklaters.
Linklaters and NNDKP were recommended for first place in all four fields of expertise analyzed - capital markets, mergers and acquisitions, financing, and banking. Musat&Asociatii is a first-league business law company in three fields (banking, capital markets, mergers and acquisitions), Tuca Zbarcea&Asociatii has been named for two categories (capital markets, mergers and acquisitions), and Popovici, Nitu&Asociatii received highest number of points for a single field: capital markets.
According to Ben Lewis, IFLR 1000 Editor, the criteria used for classification were complexity of deals and degree of innovation, quality of services, and cross-border expertise. “The hierarchy does not take into account the volume and value of transactions, even while these have a share in terms of perception on the market,” Lewis told Business Standard.
“It is a thrilling moment for business law firms in Romania. Due to high volumes of business, the associates of some large firms are starting their own firms and an increasing number of international companies are interested in entering the domestic market,” said Lewis. Real estate is the most interesting field for business law firms in Romania, followed by mergers and acquisitions, according to Ben Lewis.
