“So far, 2008 has been an excellent year for all our brands. Moreover, we have entered the whisky and white spirits market. Our strategy is to follow the evolution of the market, which will increase in the coming years. This is why we have decided to invest in a new production facility in Ploiesti, which will be ready by the end of March 2009,” said the CEO of Alexandrion Grup Romania, George Christoforidis. The new factory will lead to a doubling of Alexandrion’s brandy production.
The company sold more than 19 million bottles of alcoholic drinks in this year’s first three quarters. Alexandrion now operates five production/bottling units in Ploiesti and Radauti (Romania), and in Heraklion (Greece).
The value of the domestic spirits market is estimated by its major players (Alexendrion Grup, Scandic, Prodal ‘94, Euroavipo, and Perfect Renaissance) at €700 mln in 2008, a 15 percent annual increase. Romania ranks 11th or 12th among European countries (excepting Russia) in terms of average annual consumption of alcoholic drinks, which amounts to some 7.5 liters.
