Speaking of large, state-owned communication companies, the Minister said that their privatization is not a priority. “These are strategic government decisions that must be approved and assimilated by the government once I present their exact situation and real value,” Sandu said. The listing of the state’s share in Romtelecom and the privatization of Posta Romana and the S.N. Radiocomunicatii communications carrier were priorities for the former Minister. As for the National Authority for Communications (ANC), this was reorganized and renamed several times during the former government’s term. “ANC has become a huge entity. This institution should normally have continued as it was initially, namely responsible for the communications segment,” Sandu said. The IT and Communications Minister believes that ANC should remain a regulator, and stop handling the control part and the .ro segment. Sandu also said that he plans to ensure that Romanian broadband internet coverage reaches 90 percent by 2011.
