IT managers call removal of IT&C ministry a big mistake

The IT&C sector was overlooked when the last two Prime Ministers designate Lucian Croitoru and Liviu Negoiţă formed their ministerial teams. Thus, the Ministry of Communications and the Information Society (MCSI) is to be dissolved, and the communication segment will become the responsibility of the Ministry of Transports.

A chronic problem of the Romanian IT society is the lack of a sustainable strategy and synchronisation of initiatives, according to Călin Mihai Rangu, Chief Executive Officer of IIRUC Service, part of the Austrian Raiffeisen Informatik IT group. He added that the lack of a ministry will only lead to a variety of uncorrelated initiatives, which will reflect in financial waste and a perpetuation of existing systemic problems. “There is a direct correlation between a country’s IT systems, and these must standardize technologies, interconnections, and system management. The lack of a strong hand, which would have the same right of as that of initiators of requests will lead to a lack of correlation and cohesion,” Rangu told Business Standard.

Marcel Borodi, CEO of the Brinel group, IT infrastructure and business solution provider, said that when an IT ministry is run by an official with political power, this will have a positive impact on the sector. Otherwise, the ministry will have merely good initiatives, and risk being rejected by the rest of the government.

The Employers’ Association of the Software and Services Industry (ANIS) will officially protest to condemn the removal from of MCSI from the new government structure. “I strongly believe in the existence and role of the Ministry of Communications and the Information Society,” said Liviu Drăgan, President of ANIS.
