IT software and services market for companies worth €100 mln in 2006

The enterprise resource planning (ERP) software and services market in 2006 was worth over €100 million in 2006, with a 20 percent rise expected in 2007, according to an ERP Romania 2007 study carried out by one of the leading market research and strategic consulting firms, Pierre Audoin Consultants (PAC).

“In 2006, the Romanian market was negatively influenced by globalization and centralization; major ERP users, privatized in 2005, decided to include the acquisition of licences and maintenance for software products in group conventions. Therefore, as concerns ERP solutions retailers (Romanian branches), the year 2006 was a difficult one in terms of the top segment which has been driving the market for the past two years: namely utilities,” according to PAC Managing Director for Central and Eastern Europe, Eugen Schwab-Chesaru.

According to the PAC study, the orientation of ERP market players (mostly small and medium-sized companies) to vertical specialization or that matching the size of projects was noticeable as far back as 2006. This means that in the area of partners (especially SAP and Microsoft), as well as in that of own ERP solution developers, the offer is showing signs of becoming structured.

In the 2007-2011 period the most important increases in averages are expected in the banking, insurance, public administration (especially central, but also local), retail and distribution sectors, as well as a continuation in industry. In 2011 the IT software and services market for ERP in Romania is expected to rise to €250 mln, with implementation services the main vector for growth, followed by software product maintenance.

The principal ERP software market players continue to be SAP, Oracle, Siveco, Microsoft, TotalSoft, Epicor, and Transart.
