Government Secretary for Commerce Iuliu Winkler is the new IT&C minister, replacing suspended minister Zsolt Nagy of the Hungarian Democratic Alliance (UDMR), who is under investigation for allegedly having endangered the country's security.

The leadership of the IT&C Ministry is currently being held by Development Minister Laszlo Borbely. Former IT&C minister Zsolt Nagy was suspended on June 11.

President Traian Basescu approved in March the prosecutors' request to start probes into the minister’s activity based on findings of a special commission set up last December. The commission looked into alleged preferential treatment given during the sell-off of state assets, including Electrica Muntenia Sud, Posta Romana, Romtelecom and Petrom.

Winkler on July 24 said he still believes the decision to dismiss Zsolt Nagy may be changed. The official noted at the time his name is among those proposed by the ruling UDMR for the IT&C minister position.

Iuliu Winkler was Romania's delegate minister for trade.
