Jidvei, which produces only white wines, could also start red wines production, following this takeover. The company has a further 2,000 hectares in Tarnavelor vineyard. Its products are mostly sold on the domestic market.
Beside the 300 hectares of vineyard in Cernavoda, Necsulescu acquired a wine cellar there. Wine varieties such as Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon are trademarks of the area. The vineyard’s value amounts to some €10,000 per hectare. The Murfatlar vineyard also supplies producers Murfatlar Romania, Vincon, Vinia Iasi, Fruvimed Medgidia and Vinarte.
This year’s domestic wine market has an estimated value of €450 mln. The main players are Murfatlar, Jidvei, Cotnari and Vincon. Romania has 100,000 hectares of vineyards in bearing. Production this year will amount to some 5.5 mln hectoliters, lower than last year’s six mln hectoliters, due to difficult weather conditions. Jidvei’s management announced a few months back that the company would start producing red wine varieties. Tarnavelor vineyard was enriched by 15 hectares of red-wine vines, including Pinot Noir.
For now, the company’s portfolio includes white wines such as Feteasca Alba, Feteasca Regala, Sauvignon, Riesling, Pinot Gris and sparkling wines - Feteasca Regala, Riesling and Pinot Gris. The company is also present on the construction materials market and has several ongoing residential projects.
