“The state of euphoria generated by the rapid economic growth in the past few years is probably still very much present in the minds of Romanians, making a sudden adaptation to the situation difficult. In any case, this has imposed a more mature mentality; the ‘job hopping’ attitude is no longer fashionable; students are interested in staying with the same company for a longer period of time, making job security the top criterion. Furthermore, they define ‘career’ in terms of ‘evolution within the same department or firm,’” said psychologist Aurora Liiceanu.
Most Romanian students (70 percent) indicated they are more confident in their career perspectives than they were two years ago. Compared to previous year, there has been a doubling of students now preferring job security, and an increase in the number who wish to work for at least 10 years for the same employer.
