Marin Nicoli, administrator of the Craiova industrial park, confirmed that the German company filed a letter of intent to the park’s administration to lease 5 hectares, but the government has not yet approved the expansion. The park’s representatives think that a feasibility study will be initiated in the first six months of 2008, when work will begin on the construction.
“We received letters of intent from Kirchhoff, as well as other international companies, especially from Germany and Italy, who want to build factories to supply car parts to Ford. We do not currently have land available in the industrial park, so we have appealed to the government to allocate 100 hectares from the state’s land for these investments,” Nicoli said.
He added that the infrastructure for the additional space was carried out through a European financed project. Alma Electronic from Italy, Dumagas Transport, and concrete producer Carpat Beton Muntenia, are among the companies planning to invest in the Craiova industrial park.
Kirchhoff Automotive designs and produces car parts. The company owns factories in Germany, France, Portugal, Ireland, Spain, Hungary, Poland, Mexico, China, Great Britain and South Korea.
