KPMG: Romania can become regional natural gas hub

KPMG’s energy and utilities division for Central and Eastern Europe Partner Consultant Peter Kiss, said that if Nabucco is to cross Romania, “it can become a hub for gas trading. There is also the NETS project, which is to connect Romania to the infrastructure of the states in this region.”

According to Kiss, Romania must comply with some conditions to become a natural gas hub, namely “to trade large volumes, to have various supply sources, and to attract regional companies.” Romania is currently isolated from its neighbors and depends on imports from Russia to meet consumption.
