The laptop sales growth rate might slow down, while the laptop market share equals that of desktops, according to Calin Mirea, IDC Romania Research Analyst.
The Romanian PC market, including desktops and laptops, increased rapidly year-on-year in Q2 2007, in terms of deliveries and value, IDC indicated.
Sales per unit rose by more than one third in Q2 2007, to over 165,000, boosting the value of the Romanian PC market by 58 percent from Q2 2006, to approximately $147 million (€108.93 million). As far as desktops are concerned, the April-June 2007 period registered a 23 percent annual increase, due to government projects requiring the acquisition of desktops. The average price of PCs dropped by 8.3 percent, to RON 1,583 (€490) from the RON 1,727 (€535) level registered at the beginning of the year, according to a study published by GfK Group, the fourth-largest international market research organizastion, quoted by Mediafax.
Desktop prices fell by 9.5 percent, to RON 1,320 (€409) from RON 1,459 (€452). The prices of notebook computers dropped likewise by 12 percent in March, to reach RON 2,610 (€809). The Romanian PC market was valuated by IDC at $180 million (€133.38 million) in Q1 2007, up 43.4 percent year-on-year. According to IDC, PC sales in Romania will reach some 800,000 units in 2007, a 25 percent increase from the 635,300 units sold in 2006.
