The general budget totaled revenues worth RON 151.558 billion (€41.15 bln), 9.1 percent less that the former government’s target. For 2008, the Finance Ministry targeted total budget revenues worth RON 166.73 bln, and the government estimated that budget revenues made up 31.6 percent of GDP, which translated into RON 162.1 bln. Moreover, based on the 31.6 percent estimate, the government planned to boost revenues by an annual 18 percent this year.
Consolidated general budget revenues fell by an annual 8.68 percent in January 2009, to RON 13.8 bln (€3.26 bln), due to lower amounts collected by most composing budgets, announced the Ministry of Public Finance yesterday. Thus, revenues registered in January are 2.39 percent of this year’s GDP, estimated to reach RON 579 bln.
Furthermore, Romania’s total public debt increased 32.26 percent, to nearly RON 108.9 bln (€27.3 bln) since the end of 2007 to the end of 2008, representing 21.21 percent of the GDP estimated for 2008.
