Lindab: A young engineer earns €500 a months

The company plans to establish a technical department in 2008, to support its sales force. Graduates of building service universities will be hired and trained for one year inside the company. To attract young people, Lindab has signed contracts with university professors in Bucharest and other cities, as well as with several technical colleges.

“Personnel costs inside the company rose by 25-30 percent in the past year,” says Pantea. Compared to 2006, the average wage increased 20.5 percent, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INS). Pantea says that wages vary from one company to another in production (from some €190-687). The market average is some €410-550.

There was 12 percent personnel fluctuation last year, 3 percent more than in 2006, due to some employees deciding to start their own businesses. Currently, over 40 percent of Lindab employees have more than five years experience in the company. Production activity recruitment is increasingly more difficult since workers prefer to leave the country.

Lindab offers all its employees bonuses, premiums, trips and team building abroad, and covers private medical care, life insurance, meals, and transportation. Many employees also have the use of a company car.

Its training budget for 2008 amounts to some €190,000, and the company plans to open a training center in 2009.
