Linklaters versus White&Case

Theodore Cominos, who became Managing Partner of Linklaters Romania in the first half of 2007, has recently announced his intention to join the European Ethemba Capital investment fund, whose activities are focused on Central and Eastern European portfolios. Daniel Torscher, Head of the Linklaters office in Bratislava, is supposed to replace Cominos, who came to Romania ten years ago, as the second foreign lawyer in Romania working with the Burns Schwartz law firm. He joined the Linklaters team in 2001, as Senior Associate, became Partner and later Managing Partner as of 2007.

Sources on the market told Business Standard that two Linklaters Managing Associates, Delia Pachiu and Gabriel Klarfeld, have left their jobs with the company. According to these sources, Delia Pachiu, who specializes in operations in the energy field, will join White&Case, a leading global law firm. When contacted by Business Standard, Tod Schollenbarger, the founder of the White&Case subsidiary in Romania, declined to comment on Delia Pachiu’s recruitment in the White&Case team.

White&Case is to open its Romanian office in the coming days. The company had initially intended to enter the market by signing a partnership with a large or medium-sized local company, but then decided to develop a greenfield office.

The business law market was valuated at more than €100 million in 2006, and its main players are Nestor Nestor Dinculescu Kingston Petersen (NNDKP), Tuca, Zbarcea&Asociatii, Bostina si Asociatii, Linklaters, Musat&Asociatii, and Popovici&Asociatii.

Linklaters, Allen & Overy, Clifford Chance, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, and Slaughter and May form the Magic Circle, which brings together the leading London law firms.
