“The Romanian energy market has great potential, both in terms of renewable energy and thermal, nuclear and hydroelectric energy, which will increase the ratio of such projects in our business,” said Sorin Vladescu, Partner at Tuca Zbarcea & Asociatii, one of the top three law firms in Romania based on turnover. Vladescu added that the law firm may expand its team of energy law specialists, since this segment is important for Tuca Zbarcea & Asociatii. The law firm is involved in four major projects involving thermal and nuclear energy.
Miruna Suciu, Partner at Musat & Asociatii, said that the energy market is being consolidated, mainly on the natural gas segment and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). Suciu added that Romania’s wind energy potential is interesting for several international companies.
Claudiu Munteanu-Jipescu, Managing Counsel at Salans Romania, indicated that the energy segment is responsible for 17 percent of the firm’s turnover. He said that this ratio will increase, as will the number of projects developed in the area of renewable energy. “We should not forget that the objective imposed on Romania by the European Union is that it ensures that 33 percent of consumed electricity comes from renewable sources by 2011,” added Munteanu-Jipescu.
The energy segment makes up 30 percent of Mares & Asociatii’s turnover, according to Mihai Mares. The law firm recently merged with Spanish Garrigues law firm.
