Low-cost airlines responsible for 40% increase for Bucharest’s Aurel Vlaicu Airport
The airport’s General Manager, Stefan Mladin, said that this rise will come from new players on the market, and an increase in traffic, up to some 1.2 million passengers in 2008. About €30 mln in investments will be necessary to meet this objective. “Part of this money has been used to date for runway maintenance, and this work will continue in 2008,” added Mladin.

The airport’s General Manager said that the Board of Directors will meet this week to discuss a new passenger terminal. “The terminal, which we expect to finish this summer, will be a metal structure, much more spacious, covering 5,000 square meters, with a ground and first floor. The cost will amount to some €5 million,” added Mladin.

The Aurel Vlaicu Airport serves low-cost companies Blue Air, Wizz Air, Sky Europe, MyAir, and Germanwings, as well as private companies, such as Tiriac Air, the latter with a very small share of the business.
