Luxury medical services being developed

The only luxury hospital in Romania is Saint Lukas, established by Dr. Dorian Schwartz in 2006. Saint Lukas has a turnover of €3.6 million, and the client structure is 50 percent business people, 25 percent public figures, and 25 percent diplomats and top managers of multinational companies.

The International Diagnostic Center plans to develop ten clinics and up to three private hospitals in Romania. It also intends to invest some €2 mln in a private luxury clinic, for VIPs and top managers, which will be finalized this fall. The clinic will have a portable MRI machine, which will be available for house calls. In 2009, the clinic will have a PET-CT machine, the most complex medical investigation machine. A PET-CT analysis costs €1,300.

Although many clinics and hospitals were orientated to the luxury service segment, they changed strategy to attract more patients and survive on a market that is obliged to compete with the state. Euroclinic’s private hospital recently signed an agreement with the National Health Insurance House to decrease fees and attract more clients.
