The repeated replacement of managers of CFR SA, CFR Calatori, and CFR Marfa, due to the political instability, slowed the finalization of several projects in this sector. Practically speaking, proceedings initiated in 2008 are not on stand-by. The managers of railway companies were replaced three times in less than ten months.
“All these delays lead to the blocking of money that should enter Romania, and, implicitly, to Romania’s economic isolation. Delegations come from some multinationals to discuss projects with the officials of a company, and a week later they discover that the management was replaced, and that talks have to be reinitiated with other people,” Stefan Roseanu, Secretary General of the Association of the Romanian Railway Industry, said.
According to negotiations with the European Union, Romania must sign contracts worth €2.4 billion between 2007 and 2013, of which about €1.9 bln from European funds and the remainder from the state budget. However, to date, only one contract was signed with EU funds, worth €300,000.
