March strike responsible for 17 percent lower Dacia production in 2008

The decline in production is due to a strike in March, during which employees demanded a rise in wages. The strike could not be compensated by longer working days, company sources told Business Standard. Dacia officials were not available for comment before the closing of the print edition.

The head of Dacia’s Board of Directors, Christian Esteve, told AFP news agency in April that 320,000 card would be produced this year and that “all measures to meet this goal would be taken.” Company sources have since indicated that “only in our wildest dreams can we expect 300,000 units.”
