“Marriott Resort is very appropriate for the Romanian seaside. We do not have current plans to expand in Bucharest, but we are studying opportunities along the Black Sea,” Marriott International’s Regional Vice President, Sales&Marketing for continental Europe, Gitta Bruckmann, told Business Standard. The chain is operating the luxury Bucharest-based JW Marriott in Romania. Bruckmann said it is also interested in expanding outside Bucharest. The company operates Marriot Resort locations - developing accom modation units, entertainment areas, restaurants, coffee shops and commercial areas in the same location - under the brands Vacation Club, Horizons, Ritz-Carlton Club and Grand Residences.
The chain rarely owns shares in the hotels and resorts using its brands, as its business consists mainly in management contracts: with the investor as owner of the property and the chain operating this.
“The issue is finding the right property and investor. When this is done, we are the first ones interested in concluding a deal,” Bruckmann said.
JW Marriott is the largest five-star hotel in Bucharest and one of the two European hotels under this brand. The chain indicated last year that it is negotiating the affiliation of a local hotel with its Ritz-Carlton, Courtyard or Renaissance brands.
