The model will be equipped with 4 types of engines: three 1.8, 2 or 2.5-liter gasoline engines, and a 2-liter diesel engine, according to the brand's local general importer, Mazda Central and South Europe (Mazda CSEE).

The company will launch only the sedan version in 2007, while the hatchback, combi sport, and diesel versions will come on the market in 2008.

Romanian market Mazda sales soared by 140 percent year-on-year in the first 10 months of 2007, to 714 units. The company plans to sell 1,000 units in 2007 and 2,000 in 2008.

The Mazda6 was the most popular model on the market, with 242 sold units, followed by the Mazda3, with 215 sold units, and the BT-50 pickup, with 95 sold units.

The Romanian auto market is estimated to reach 360,000 sold units in 2007, a 20 percent increase from last year. In 2006, Romania became the largest new car market in Central and Eastern Europe, with some 300,000 cars sold.
