“The main factors which lead to the surge in revenue in this period are a rise in Romanian purchasing power, promotions of various products, and a large range of products we make available to consumers,” according to a declaration for Business Standard by Cristian Savu, Communications Manager for McDonald’s.
The company recently opened a new restaurant in Baneasa Shopping City, is working on another opening near the Billa hypermarket in the Floreasca area, and plans to establish a further 4-5 units this year. McDonald’s Romania, part of the American group by the same name, has 54 fast-food restaurants in Bucharest and 19 other cities.
The sales in the first quarter include results from the four franchise units, of which three in Brasov and one in Suceava, the latter opened in Q1 2008.
A significant recent move is home delivery in several key areas around the country, and the company is forecasting turnover this year worth €100 mln due to expansion of the network.
