Cold meats producer Medeus Bucharest estimates a 10 percent increase in net sales in 2007, up to €27 million, because of increasing demand from international store chains, especially in the meat specialties segment.
The demand for Medeus products rose 7 percent this year in the on-line shopping field, while dropping 5 percent on the traditional market, according to Medeus Managing Director, Alina Marcu, for Business Standard. Deliveries of vacuum packed products have also increased, compared to traditional products.
The local cold meats market amounts to some 200,000 tons, with an estimated value of about €700 million. Major companies on the market are Cris-Tim, Caroli, Campofrio, Aldis and Angst. Medeus has a 3-5 percent market share in the Bucharest area.
Medeus produces some 100 brands of salamis, sausages, bolognas, and meat specialties. The company will launch a new brand for children, called Liliput, which includes chicken hot dogs, bologna and ham. The company has a factory in Bucharest with a daily production capacity of 30 tons. Production is to be relocated outside Bucharest next year. The company will build a new factory worth some €4 million, with the investment to be made with structural funds.
