Mega Image Romania boosts Delhaize business

In the January-March 2008 period, the retailer’s operating profit for Romania and Indonesia amounted to €1 mln, according to a company press release.

Delhaize operates the Mega Image network in Romania, with 23 supermarkets.

In late March, the retailer purchased the La Fourmi supermarket network from Greek Global Finance investment fund, which owned 90 percent of the company’s share capital, and from a number of private investors, who had the rest. Delhaize officials believe the deal will be finalized in the third quarter of 2008, at the latest.

Globally, the group posted a 4.9 percent increase in income, calculated at the same exchange rate as for Q1 2007. At current exchange rates, income dropped 4.5 percent, to €4.5 billion, due to the depreciation of the dollar to the euro.
