“The company’s management, which has a global vision of the business, preferred the acquisition of the Bulgarian factory. It is likely that certain advantages which Bulgaria has over Romania led to this decision,” Waldemar Murgu, Country Manager of Meggle Romania, told Business Standard.
“We have not only met out target for 2008 but also registered a 68 percent annual growth rate,” Murgu said, adding that this year’s profit was triple that of the company’s initial forecast for 2008.
Meggle Romania expects a 50 percent rise in net sales in 2009, in spite of the economic crisis. Regarding the Romanian market, Murgu foresees stagnation or a rise of up to five percent of the dairy market, at best. The value of the local dairy market amounts to €1 billion, and its main players include Danone, Friesland, Tnuva, Albalact, and Covalact.
