However, the government plans to reinstate its policy of calculating the minimum wage in accordance with the minimum consumption basket, according to Prime Minister Calin Popescu Tariceanu yesterday. This policy was dropped several years ago, and the value of the minimum wage was determined since then on the basis of negotiations with trade and employers’ unions.
Several unionists were dissatisfied with the decision to increase the minimum wage to RON 500, as they had requested a rise to RON 540 (€156.9). Moreover, trade unions want the wage to be renegotiated next year, in case of good economic evolution.
