The premier said some sites have already been evaluated. He added the government will continue to develop the nuclear sector after finalizing the third and the forth units at Cernavoda in order to secure cheap energy over the long term.
Another nuclear plant would help ease the current demand for gas resources as local production versus imports is at a 70-30 ratio which will change to 50-50 in the future on growing imports. Moreover, coal is now used less efficiently, according to Economy Minister Varujan Vosganian.
Tariceanu and Vosganian attended on Friday the official opening of the Cernavoda nuclear second reactor, which, combined with the first, will produce about 20% of the country's energy.
Tariceanu added there is a potential plan to build another hydro-electric power station on the Danube, but they have to analyze the costs and advantages. He added the station could be built at Turnu Magurele on the Danube in partnership with Bulgaria.
