At an average €350 price tag for a GPS, the company’s sales in Romania amounted to €12.6 million.
“This equipment made up 60 percent of Romanian users’ preferences in 2007. For this year, we plan to retain at least a 50 percent market share, and carry on as market leader in Romania,” the company’s General Manager for Eastern Europe, Mariusz Manowski, said.
According to company estimates, some 60,000 units were sold last year on the GPS market, while 180,000 units are expected to be sold this year, or 200 percent higher year-on-year.
The company foresees 250-300 percent growth this year, above the market average. “This evolution will not be as spectacular in terms of sales value, given the average price of a GPS device has dropped to some €250,” Manowski added.
Mio Technology’s main competitor on the local market is U.S. producer Garmin, which estimates the market at only 23,000 units.
