Mobile telephony networks have registered almost all applications for portability

Within three days of portability going into effect, ANC registered more than 650 applications, so based on some 100 requests in the first day, their number doubled in the subsequent two days.

Representatives of RCS&RDS, one of the main local telecom market a player, which provides fixed and mobile telephony, estimates that the effects of portability will be felt within two-three months.

“We received several tens of requests from clients around the country, who want to move to the RCS&RDS network. We expect that portability will help the monthly growth rhythm both in terms of fixed and mobile telephony. People are presently interested in information, so it will take two to three months until they understand the benefits of portability,” said Ovidiu Ghiman, Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) of RCS&RDS.

“The number of those requested portability in the network was 30 percent higher than the number of those requesting portability to other networks within the first day of portability going into effect,” said officials of Orange Romania, the largest mobile telephone network.

Representatives of Vodafone, the second-largest mobile network, indicated that the request for portability was very minor.

The President of ANC estimates that some 20-25 percent of mobile telephone numbers will be brought to other networks in the first two years from the introduction of portability.

Most operators announced they will introduce an offer by which they will support the costs relating to portability to another network. The move of a client from one telecommunications operator to another without a change in telephone number costs €11 for mobile telephony companies and €13 for fixed telephone operators.
